Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister congratulates Cuba on their election to the UN Human Rights Council

The Deputy Prime Minister of the government, Yim Chhay Ly, received to the Ambassador of Cuba in Cambodia, Liurka Rodríguez. At the meeting, he congratulated the Caribbean island for its recent election to the Human Rights Council, an area in which Cuba achieves commendable results, including support for the development of other nations in health matters. He recalled the Cuban medical brigades sent to the Asian country that contributed to improving the sector's indicators in difficult times.

The Cuban ambassador expressed her deepest condolences for the human and material losses caused by the floods of this period. She pondered the government's capacity to deal with COVID-19. The diplomat also thanked Cambodia's support for the noble cause of the Cuban people for the end of the United States blockade.

During the meeting, the progress of bilateral relations in areas such as education and sports, among others, was highlighted within the framework of the commemoration of the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties. Both interlocutors expressed the desire to explore new areas of cooperation such as agriculture, environment and rural development.
