The Chargé d'Affaires a.i. of the Cuban Embassy in India, Abel Aballe Despaigne held an extensive exchange with around twenty students from one of the main educational centers in New Delhi, the Jawaharlal Nehru University.
During the meeting, the Cuban diplomat highlighted current Cuban issues related to the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the US government against Cuba for more than 60 years and the impact of its recrudescence on the Cuban population, as well as the permanence of Cuba as a State sponsor of terrorism in the unilateral list drawn up by the US government.
The Cuban diplomat also highlighted the principles that characterize our foreign policy, such as international solidarity, Latin Americanism and anti-imperialism, which have been present in our medical collaboration with the Global South, the most recent example of which were the more than 40 Cuban medical brigades present in more than 50 countries during the Covid-19 pandemic; in the support and promotion of integration and unity processes genuinely Latin American in the region, such as CELAC and ALBA; in our positions in the Movement of Non-Aligned Countries, in the defense of the causes of the Global South; and in the invariable position of support of Cuba and its people to the cause of the Palestinian people, to their right to exist as a nation and State, and to the condemnation of the genocide suffered by thousands of innocent people, children in the Gaza Strip.
In addition, he discussed the current state of bilateral relations between Cuba and India, as well as the historical moments that have marked our close ties of friendship, solidarity, respect and cooperation. He also noted the interest of both governments in strengthening political, economic-commercial and cooperation ties, as well as the existing potential to be exploited in different sectors for the development of relations.
