Congratulatory Message for the 30th Anniversary of the Independence of Namibia.

Fidel Castro and Sam Nujoma

Namibia, March 21st, 2020- The Embassy of the Republic of Cuba in Namibia, on behalf of the Cuban government and people, wishes to convey congratulations to the Namibian government and people on the 30th Anniversary of their Independence.

For Cubans, today is also a day of national joy. It is not only 30 years since the official establishment of diplomatic relations. It is the anniversary of a victory for our people: Cuba fought hard for the sovereignty and independence of Namibia.

The sacrifice of thousands of Angolans, Namibians and Cubans was not in vain. Thanks to them, the racist and genocidal apartheid regime was defeated, allowing Angola to preserve its independence, Namibia to achieve its and subsequently culminate racial oppression in South Africa. The blood of those heroes and martyrs, quoting the Namibian hymn, "waters our freedom."

In these thirty years, hundreds of Cuban collaborators, in different sectors, have rendered their services to this sister nation. Several hundred Namibian students have studied in Cuba, joining the thousands who did it before the triumph of the Namibian Revolution. Similarly, Namibia has remained on Cuba's side in our fight against the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States. Cuba is infinitely grateful for this support.

Let us celebrate the brotherhood, between SWAPO and the Communist Party of Cuba, between both peoples and their leaders, especially between Commander in Chief Fidel Castro and Founding Father Sam Nujoma. Let us preserve what has been achieved under the leadership of Comrade Hifikepunye Pohamba and Army General Raúl Castro. Let us continue working to strengthen those historical ties between Cuba and Namibia, with the guidance of Presidents Hage Geingob and Miguel Díaz-Canel.

Finally, on behalf of the Cuban government and people, the Embassy of the Republic of Cuba in Namibia congratulates President Hage Geingob on his re-election and wishes success under his management to continue.

Long live Namibia!

Long live Cuba!

Long live the friendship between our peoples!

¡A luta continua, vitória é certa!
