The Ambassador of Cuba in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Vilma Reyes Valdespino, gave an interview to the journalist of the WeFM-999 Radio station, Shenon Marshall , about the new Constitution of the Republic of Cuba, approved in the Referendum of March 24, 2019.
The radio program on the Cuban Constitution was broadcasted by the WEFM-99 radio station at noon.
The diplomat began with a brief historical excursion on the rich constitutional tradition of Cuba and the texts that preceded the current fundamental law.
The Ambassador pointed out that this is a modern constitution, adapted to the new times, to the evolution of Cuban society and the world, but firmly anchored in the ideals of unity, social justice, humanism and the inalienable purpose of the Cuban people to build a socialist society with all and for the good of all.
She pointed out that the Cuban people, who for months analyzed and debated the draft Constitution, both in Cuba and abroad, was its main protagonist, achieving, as expected, a magna Charta customized to the Cuban society and its aspirations.
She emphasized that the Constitution that ratifies the socialist economy, the property of all the people over the fundamental means of production and the planned direction of the economy, expands the range of types of property that it recognizes in an interaction whose exercise and scope regulates the law.
The Ambassador referred to the profound democratic nature of the precepts of the new Constitution in the different spheres, commented on the new structure of the State and its territorial organization, among others.
By noting that the new text reaffirms the socialist State of law and ratifies the Communist Party of Cuba as the leading force of society, the diplomat drew attention to the fact that, 43 years after the adoption of the 1976 Constitution, the majority of voters of the current one, corresponds to the new generations. Hence, this is the choice of young people and is the supreme confirmation of the continuity of the Cuban revolutionary process.
