Abuya, February 19, 2025 – In an atmosphere of cordiality and fraternity, His Excellency Legesse Geremew Haile, the new Ambassador of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to Nigeria, paid a courtesy visit to the Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to Nigeria, Miriam Morales Palmero. During the meeting, both diplomats reaffirmed the friendship and historical ties that unite their nations, marked by solidarity and the common struggle for sovereignty and justice.
At the meeting, held at the headquarters of the Cuban Embassy in Abuja, the importance of continuing to strengthen bilateral relations in key areas such as technical cooperation, health, education and cultural exchange was highlighted. Likewise, both ambassadors agreed on the need to continue promoting dialogue and mutual collaboration in international forums, defending principles of peace, self-determination and sustainable development.
Ambassador Miriam Morales Palmero highlighted the historic friendship between Cuba and Ethiopia, evoking Cuban support for the independence and development of the African country, the training of numerous Ethiopian professionals in Cuban universities, and support in the multilateral arena, especially in the African Union, most recently with the approval of a resolution in favor of the elimination of the United States blockade and the removal of Cuba from the unilateral list of countries that supposedly sponsor terrorism. For his part, Ambassador Legesse Geremew Haile expressed his gratitude for Cuba's support and cooperation over the years, reaffirming his country's commitment to continue strengthening these ties.
The meeting concluded with the will of both parties to continue working together to consolidate the excellent diplomatic and cooperation relations between Ethiopia and Cuba, for the benefit of their peoples and the development of Africa and Latin America.
