Wellington, September 3rd, 2019 - Diplomats from Cuba and the Cook Islands met at the headquarters of the Cuban Embassy in this capital, to celebrate the 17th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two nations.
The Cuban Ambassador, Mario Alzugaray, expressed his country's will to continue deepening bilateral ties, as small island states that share multiple challenges in today's complex international scenario, with an emphasis on confronting Climate Change.
From her side, the High Commissioner of Cook Islands, Elizabeth Wright-Koteka, highlighted the valuable collaboration that Cuba develops with the Pacific Islands in the health sector.
Cuba and the Cook Islands established diplomatic relations on September 2nd, 2002, being one of the first countries in that region to build official ties with the Caribbean nation. (Embacuba NZ).
