Helsinki, September 23, 2018. Cuban Ambassador Eduardo Lazo Pérez was received on Friday, September 21, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Estonia by H.E. Rainer Saks, Secretary General of the Ministry. During the meeting were discussed several topics of bilateral and multilateral interest.
Both interlocutors expressed the willingness to promote the expansion of bilateral ties between Cuba and Estonia, and strengthen the dialogue between their respective Foreign Ministries. They also stressed the importance of the provisional implementation, already under way, of the Political Dialogue and Cooperation Agreement signed between Cuba and the European Union.
The Cuban Ambassador, concurrent from Helsinki, used the opportunity to thank the position adopted by Estonia, together with the other Member States of the European Union, contrary to the illegal and unjust economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba.
The Secretary General highlighted the attraction and sympathy that Cuba arouses in many Estonians, expressed in the growing number of tourists visiting the Caribbean island.
On the Estonian side, Ms. Katrin Kanarik, Counselor in charge of relations with Latin America and the Caribbean in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, also attended the meeting. (Report: Embassy of Cuba to Finland, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania).
