Cuba and Indonesia Celebrate the 57th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations

Indonesia, January 19, 2017. The Embassy of Cuba hosted the celebrations of the 57th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations with Indonesia, next 22nd January.

Cuban Ambassador Nirsia Castro Guevara was accompanied by Fadli Zon Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives; Ma'ruf Cahyono General Secretary of the People's Consultative Assembly; Daryatmo Mardiyanto President of the Parliamentary Friendship Group; Muhammad Anshor General Director for America and Europe, and Adam M. Tugio Director for North America and Central America, the last two of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, among other friends of the press and organisms of the country, to celebrate the advent next 22nd January of the Anniversary 57 of the establishment of diplomatic relations.

During the celebration, the Ambassador reviewed the development of the ties between the two peoples, the beginning of which was marked by the visit of Ernesto Che Guevara to Indonesia in 1959 as part of a tour for several African and Asian countries and the visit to Cuba in January 1960 of the first President and founder of the Independence of Indonesia, Sukarno. Castro Guevara highlighted the good state of bilateral relations and the potential of various sectors, including trade and cooperation.

Meanwhile, the General Director of the Foreign Ministry acknowledged the positive results of the visits exchanged during 2016, including two high-level parliamentary delegations to Cuba and the General Director of MINREX to Indonesia, to advance in the development of the diplomatic relations and cooperation, as well as the interest of focusing on the identification of concrete projects that will allow tangible progress in the development of bilateral ties.
