Cuba and Iran aim to revive its scientific collaboration

A delegation of the Cuban scientific sector, headed by Dr. Luis Herrera Martinez, Scientific and Commercial Advisor of the Higher Business Management Organization “BioCubaFarma”, arrived in Tehran for talks with Pasteur Institute of Iran. Upon arrival at the Iranian capital the delegation was received by representatives of this institute and the Ambassador of Cuba, Vladimir González Quesada.

The delegation composed by executives of the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (CIGB), Finlay Institute and the Center for Molecular Immunology (CIM) aims to exchange with authorities and specialists from Pasteur Institute to analyze the possibilities of technology transfer and the introduction of Cuban medical and pharmaceutical products in the Iranian market.

During his visit to Cuba, on last August, as part of his Latin American tour, the Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif was accompanied by a large delegation of entrepreneurs and businessmen. This was a good opportunity to review bilateral relations from the economic and trade point of view, including the scientific sector.

In the 90s of last century, Cuba and Iran maintained a successful collaboration in the biotechnology field, and as a result a transfer of technology allowed the Persian nation to produce various types of vaccines. Today this country has its own scientific development, recognized at regional and international level.
