Cuba and Jamaica recognize potential for cooperation in agriculture and fisheries

Kingston, Jamaica, 31 May 2022. The Cuban Ambassador Fermín Quiñones Sánchez visited the Jamaican Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries this morning, where he had a fruitful exchange with the head of that ministry, the Honorable Pearnel Charles Jr., the Minister of state Franklin Witter, and other senior officials of that entity.

Both parties recognized the common challenges facing agricultural activity in Cuba and Jamaica, including soil degradation, adverse weather conditions, and the need for fertilizers and animal feed. The Jamaican Minister recognized Cuba's progress in agricultural sciences and in the resilience of our agriculture to droughts and hurricanes.

The meeting highlighted the enormous potential of common work towards agricultural development and food security of both nations, based on complementarity, trade, investment and bilateral cooperation.
