Port of Spain, April 23.- In collaboration with the National Library of Trinidad and Tobago (NALIS) and the Spain and Latin American Embassies, accredited in Port of Spain, a marathon of children's stories in the Spanish language was held at the NALIS headquarters. The event involved hundreds of children representing secondary schools in the country, where the Spanish language is part of the teaching program.
As part of the program of the event each of the Latin American countries, represented by their embassies, had the opportunity to prepare a space to highlight the most valuable of their children's literature, as well as aspects of the educational system and activity with children in their respective Nations.
In the case of Cuba, the opportunity was favorable for Cuban diplomats to exchange with those present about the life and work of the National Hero, José Martí and his particular relationship with the children to whom he dedicated a fundamental part of his literary work, ideas and teachings that today they form the basis of attention to children in education in Cuba. Among the objectives of the Cuban exhibition was highlighting the interest of Marti in initiating the habit of reading at early ages of childhood, as well as proposing children to approach works such as the "Golden Age" and other classics of the most universal of Cubans, in which values such as humility, modesty and friendship are transferred.
Trinidadian children complemented the fragment dedicated to Cuba with the montage and performance of children's stories authored by Dora Alonso, Onelio Jorge and other renowned exponents of children's literature. When thanking the effort and study of the Cuban authors by the students and teachers, the Embassy presented with copies of books by Cuban authors and urged them to continue deepening into
the Spanish language. The Embassy used the occasion to formally deliver to NALIS a donation of several books of Cuban children's stories.
