Nigeria, August 9th, 2023.- The Cuban ambassador designated for Nigeria, Miriam Morales Palmero, was received by Ambassador Ngozi Ukaeje, new director of International Organizations of the Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
During the meeting, both diplomats agreed on the importance of the upcoming Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Group of 77 plus China for our countries. The President of the Republic of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermudez, in his capacity as President Pro Tempore of the G-77 + China Group, convened a Summit of Heads of State and Government under the theme "Current development challenges: Role of Science, Technology and Innovation", on September 15 and 16, 2023, in Havana.
Nigeria was Pro Tempore President of the Group in 2000 and is one of the invited countries, which surely has much to contribute due to its multilateral experience.
The Cuban diplomat thanked Nigeria for its invariable support for the Cuban Resolution against the genocidal blockade imposed by the United States government on the Caribbean Island. The US government's policy towards Cuba is increasingly rejected by the worldwide. In the year 2022, 185 nations voted against the blockade and in favor of the Cuban resolution to end this economic war against its people.
The Minister Counselor, Nick Uhomoibhi, from that department of the Nigerian Foreign Ministry, participated on the Nigerian side, while the Cuban side accompanied the designated ambassador, Counselor Pavel Bauzá Fusté.
