Cuba and Seychelles promote cooperation between National libraries

Victoria, Feb 5 (Prensa Latina) Cuban Deputy Culture Minister Lizette Martínez and the Secretary General of the Institute for Culture, Heritage and Arts of Seychelles, David André, signed a cooperation agreement between the national libraries of the two countries on Wednesday.

The two officials peened a memorandum of understanding to promote cultural exchanges between these prestigious institutions, thus fostering mutual knowledge between their peoples, according to a statement from the Cuban Embassy in the African country.

The Cuban official took the opportunity to donate several books to the National Library of Seychelles.

Meanwhile, André confirmed the intention of both countries to redouble their efforts to preserve and promote cultural heritage, encourage educational development and advance the use of new technologies in the field of libraries.

He assured that this collaboration would open the door to sharing knowledge, resources and experience in areas such as digitization, preservation and conservation of valuable documentary funds.

Martínez, in turn, stated that through this memorandum, the exchange of information, experiences and specialized knowledge, training courses, workshops, conferences, events, among other actions to promote and develop national policies related to bibliographic and documentary heritage will be encouraged.

The signing of the memorandum was witnessed by Cuban Ambassador Martha Hernández, and Cecile Kalebi, permanent secretary of the National Institute of Culture, Heritage and Arts of Seychelles, among other officials of the Foreign Ministry of Seychelles and the Cuban Embassy.

Later, the Cuban deputy culture minister met with Secretary General of Tourism Sherine Francis, to discuss issues related to the actions taken by both countries to disseminate and promote indigenous values and culture through sustainable tourism.

As part of the agenda of the visit, which will conclude on February 10, the Cuban deputy culture minister will meet with Wavel Woodcock, president of the Committee on Press, Youth, Sports and Culture and vice president of the Commission on International Relations, and will visit places of cultural, heritage and historical value in the nation.
