A ceremony was held in Cuba to welcome the donation sent by the Government of India of 80 tons of active pharmaceutical ingredients, worth 10 million EUR, which will be used for the production of oral and injectable antibiotics for hospital and community use in our country. This contribution reaffirms the close ties of friendship, solidarity and cooperation between the peoples of Cuba and India, maintained for more than 60 years.
The official ceremony was headed by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade and Investment, Déborah Rivas Saavedra, who thanked on behalf of the Cuban government and people for this gesture of solidarity from India. The donation will have a great impact on the health system and on the quality of life of the Cuban population, in the midst of the tightening of the economic, commercial and financial blockade by the U.S. government, which has significantly affected the pharmaceutical sector.
The Indian ambassador to Cuba, Armstrong Changsan; the president of BioCubaFarma, Dr. Mayda Mauri Pérez; and the director of the Pharmaceutical Company "8 de marzo", Zenia Madrazo Sagre, were also present.
