Cuba attends the Eighth Meeting of General Directors of Civil Aviation of North America, Central America and the Caribbean

Ottawa, July 31: From July 31 to August 2, the Eighth Meeting of General Directors of Civil Aviation of North America, Central America and the Caribbean (NACC) takes place in the Canadian capital. Dra. Fang Liu, General Secretary of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), chaired the inaugural session. Armando Daniel López, President of the Institute of Civil Aeronautics of Cuba (IACC), chairs the delegation of Cuba.

The meeting will review the status of compliance with the previous conclusions, it will examine the progress of the regional strategy “No Country Left Behind”, aimed at raising the level of effective compliance of States in the implementation of ICAO regulations; also, it  will address the needs and challenges of global aviation, among other important issues.

As actions to face the challenges, the importance of having a sustained policy of training of current civil aviation personnel, as well as future generations of professionals, will be discussed, for which a Declaration of Intent for regional collaboration will be signed between the training centres of North America, Central America and the Caribbean.

A panel was held during the first day of the meeting on the ICAO Business Plan for the 2020-2022 triennium and its link with the budget, in which Cuba had the opportunity to intervene as a panellist. The President of IACC expressed our vision as a small island developing state, highlighting the importance of continuing to strengthen the Organization's main role in generating the appropriate framework of global regulations that guarantee the traveling public a safe, efficient and sustainable aviation, as well as adequate mechanisms of cooperation and technical assistance to the States, to achieve a harmonic implementation at a global level, which guarantees even more secure skies.
