Accra, October 9, 2023. - The Friendship Medal was presented today at the Embassy of the Republic of Cuba in the Republic of Ghana to His Excellency Mr. Kojo Owusu Gyamadua Amoo-Gottfried who was Ambassador of the Republic of Ghana to the Republic of Cuba from 1982 to 1989.
The important presentation of this award, which is granted by Presidential Decree in recognition of a record of solidarity with the Caribbean nation and in defence of the Cuban Revolution, was attended by Dr. Kwesi Pratt Jnr, H.E. Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, Hon. Kofi Attor, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa and H.E. Juan Carretero Ibañez.
In her remarks, the Cuban Ambassador Anette Chao García recalled the most important event of the day, the assassination of the heroic guerrilla fighter Ernesto Ché Guevara, and said that the date was chosen because of the importance of the event. She also acknowledged the role of the honouree in the relations between the two countries, highlighting his valuable performance as part of the Scholarship Programme for Ghanaian children and young people, which was promoted by the Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz and Flight Lieutenant Jerry John Rawlings. The Cuban Ambassador also recognised the former ambassador's collaboration with the Cuba Solidarity Movement and his deep love for our island.
For his part, H.E. Mr. Kojo Owusu Gyamadua Amoo-Gottfried, expressed his gratitude for the Medal and said that he cherishes with special affection the period he spent in Cuba.
