Cuba for ending Occupied Palestian Territories

United Nations, (Prensa Latina) Cuba demanded today to UN Security Council the adoption of necessary decisions to cease Israeli occupation and other crimes against Palestians.

´As an international community, we owe a debt to Palestian people. It is time to break the silence and immobilism, which have led it to suffer unworthy humiliations. It is time to do away with the impunity of Israeli criminal actions against Palestine´, said Ambassador Humberto Rivero during a session of the Council.

The Cuban diplomat, at a Forum goal-oriented to address the situation in the Middle East, condemned the impact of half a century of Israeli occupation and also called for commitment to guaranteeing Palestians as an independent State, having the Western Jerusalem as the capital and the borders before 1967.

As stated by Rivero, the suffering of human beings as those five millions of Palestinian refugees and the demolition of some Palestinian-owned structures in the West Bank as one of the elements of settlement policy applied by Israel, must come to an end. During his speech, Cuban official owned up to the adoption in the Council, on December 23th, of the 2334 resolution, calling for the occupying Power to stop settlement buildings and fuster the solution of both States.

Rivero, however, considered it incomplete, since it marks this year half century of occupation, 'that mean 50 years of continuous outrages, aggressions, murders and human rights violations'.

He advocated the accession of Palestine as a full member of the United Nations (Palestine is actually an observer State).

'We once again call on the UN Security Council to follow the same path. It would be undoubtedly another step in the right direction. Failure to do so, the UN General Assembly should act with great determination to decide the case', he stated.
