Cuba-EU First Joint Committee Meets in Havana

CUBA, September 3, 2019. The First Cuba-EU Joint Committee met today in Havana to review the implementation of the Political Dialogue and Cooperation Agreement (PDCA) as a preamble to the Second Joint Council meeting to be held  on September 9 in this capital.

The delegations of Cuba and the EU discussed the status of the ratifications of the Agreement by the EU member States and the development of the political and cooperation dialogues. They also discussed the establishment of dialogues on sector policies and the importance of increasing trade and investments.  There was a thorough exchange on the need to counteract the impact of the implementation of the Helms-Buton Act and its extraterritorial effects wich also affect European natural and juridical persons.

The Joint Committee also finalized the details of the next Joint Council, which will count on the presence of  the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy of the European Union, who will be heading the delegation of the community bloc.

The Cuban delegation was headed by Emilio Lozada García, Director-General of Bilateral Affairs at the Cuban Chancellery.  The European delegation was headed by Hugo Sobral, Deputy Managing Director of the Americas Departament of the European External Action Service.
