Cuba's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bruno Rodriguez, today thanked the pronouncements at the III South Summit in recognition of his leadership, efforts and work at the head of the G77 and China in 2023.
In his profile on the social network X, the highest representative of Cuban diplomacy reaffirmed his nation's permanent commitment to the interests of the countries of the South.
The day before, the forum concluded in Uganda, where fundamental issues such as the genocide against the Palestinian people, the right to development and the Millennium Development Goals until 2030 were discussed.
The Caribbean nation was represented at the meeting by Vice President Salvador Valdés, who maintained frequent contacts with Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni, to whom he handed over the pro tempore presidency of the G77 and China. Cuba proposed at the meeting to demand an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and expeditious access to humanitarian assistance, as well as the convening of an international peace conference under the auspices of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) to stop the Israeli aggression against Palestine.
It also urged support for the full and immediate membership of Palestine as a member state of the UN, and the dispatch of a mission to determine the humanitarian situation in Gaza by the UNGA.
The Summit, which ended in Kampala the day before, discussed, among other issues, fair trade among the nations of the South and financing for development, as well as the search for consensus in the face of the conflicts experienced by the member countries of the group.
