The First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, described as "a pleasure" the fact of receiving the honorable Lukas Sinimbo Muha, Chairperson of the National Council of the Republic of Namibia, at the Palace of the Revolution this Friday.
His visit, he said, is very important for us and "strengthens the historic relations that exist between our peoples."
In a special way, he recalled his two stays in Namibia, the last of them during the past year, occasion in which he had the opportunity to hold multiple meetings, including the dialogue with his counterpart from that nation, the late Hage Geingob.
"We deeply regret the death of President Hage," Díaz-Canel said. "He was a great friend of Cuba," he said.
Whenever we visit his country, he said, we feel the special affection of the people of Namibia for the people of Cuba.
The relationship between our peoples and governments is excellent, with strong political and diplomatic ties that are supported by parliamentarians, said the Head of State, who also acknowledged that all government and leadership structures are involved in strengthening and expanding our relations.
"Your visit is a contribution to that consolidation," Díaz-Canel stressed to his interlocutor, who arrived on the Caribbean island to take part in the work sessions of the International Seminar on Parliamentary Diplomacy, which took place in Havana, between September 18 and 19.
In his words, the president also confirmed the certainty that Namibia can count on the support of Cuba, and it is "our political will to continue expanding, strengthening and consolidating our relations."
"Thank you for the hospitality with which you have welcomed us," said the Chairperson of the National Council of the Republic of Namibia, who on behalf of his people thanked the expressions of support and encouragement received from Cuba after the death of President Hage, which occurred last February.
Likewise, he recalled the participation of the Cuban president in the commemorations for Namibia's Heroes' Day, in August 2023.
He also commented on the historic relations that exist between both nations that were fostered during the African country's liberation war and were strengthened later.
"We Namibians will always be grateful to the Cuban people," he stressed, then recalling how the Greater Antilles has contributed to the training of professionals from his country who occupy important roles in the economic development of the nation.
This is my first visit to Cuba, he said, but I assure you that it will not be the last.
