Cuba highlights opportunities for cooperation in Traditional and Natural Medicine at the AYUSH Global Investment and Innovation Summit.

In the context of the Global Investment and Innovation Summit in AYUSH, the Deputy Head of Mission of the Cuban Embassy in India, Abel Aballe Despaigne, highlighted the potential for cooperation between India and Cuba in the field of traditional and natural medicine.

During the Diplomatic Conclave held after the opening ceremony of the Summit in the Indian state of Gujarat, the Cuban official addressed the development of our country in the health and biopharmaceutical sectors, and the presence in them of various modalities and products of natural and traditional medicine.

During the visit to Havana of the President of the Republic of India Ram Nath Kovind, in 2018, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed for cooperation in the field of Traditional Medicine and Homeopathy, between the Ministry of Public Health of Cuba and the Ministry of Ayush of India. As a result of this, was founded in 2019, in the medical center "La Pradera, a Panchakarma Center, with which was introduced in Cuba the use of Ayurvedic medicine as another of the modalities of natural and traditional medicine integrated into the Cuban health system. "This is an example of the possible achievements to be reached from the collaboration between Indian and Cuban institutions," the Cuban diplomat pointed out.

Likewise, he affirmed that Cuba is open to investments and cooperation in order to promote the presence and services of natural medicine in the country, for the benefit of its population and the region.

He also congratulated the government of India on the inauguration of the Global Center for Traditional Medicine in the city of Jamnagar. He expressed the country's willingness to collaborate actively with the Indian government in order to share experiences in the implementation of national policies for the development of traditional medicine, the compilation of scientific data and the creation of global standards and treatments that will allow expanding the use of these sciences at the international level.

An invitation to participate in "Cuba Salud 2022" and the "Health for All 2022" fair, which will take place from October 17-21, was also extended.

Cuba's participation in the Diplomatic Conclave was part of a working visit organized by the Ministry of Ayush, which included participation in the inauguration ceremonies of the World Health Organization's Global Center for Traditional Medicine and the first AYUSH Global Investment and Innovation Summit, presided over by the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi; the Secretary General of the WHO, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus; and the Prime Minister of the Republic of Mauritius, Pravind Jugnauth.
