London, November 8 - The Cuban Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Ismara Vargas Walter, made a very successful visit to the city of Bristol, where she met with friends and sympathizers of the Cuban cause, visited emblematic places in the city and participated in various activities with solidarity organizations, trade union leaders and local Labour Party councillors. This day of exchange was a demonstration of the friendship and solidarity that unites the Cuban people with the British community, especially at a time when Cuba is facing the U.S. blockade and its inclusion in the list of countries that sponsor terrorism.
As part of the visit, the Ambassador met with the local Cuba Solidarity Campaign group and representatives of Unite the Union (Unite Southwest) to promote the Cuba Vive campaign, which is dedicated to raising funds to send medical supplies to Cuba. The event demonstrated the commitment of those present to support Cuba in its struggle against the blockade and the consequences of its unjust inclusion on the list of countries that sponsor terrorism. The Ambassador expressed her gratitude for the solidarity shown and emphasized that these gestures are essential to overcome the difficulties imposed and to advance towards a more just world.
The day included a visit to the University of Bristol, where the Ambassador met with academics interested in the history and current reality of Cuba. During the visit, possibilities for academic and cultural cooperation were explored and the mutual interest in promoting educational exchanges and a better understanding of Cuba was reaffirmed.
The Ambassador also met with local Labor Party councilors, where they discussed issues of cooperation and the impact of the blockade on Cuba. The councilors expressed their rejection of the unilateral measures that directly affect the Cuban people. In this sense, the Ambassador highlighted the importance of the bonds of solidarity to strengthen the values of justice and peace, and to work together to build a more just world.
The Embassy of Cuba in the United Kingdom is grateful for the warm welcome of the community of Bristol and the support of all those who, with their actions and voices, contribute to breaking the siege of the blockade and supporting Cuba in its right to self-determination. Thank you, Bristol! With the support of allies and friends, we will continue to fight for justice and sovereignty for Cuba.
