Cuban Ambassador to Australia holds meeting with the President of the Parliamentary Group of Friendship with Cuba.

Canberra, February 19, 2019. At the head quarters of the Australian Federal Parliament, the President of the Parliamentary Friendship Group, the Honorable Warren Entsch, received the Cuban Ambassador, Ariel Lorenzo Rodríguez.

Duringthe cordial meeting, the themes addressed were the current state of Cuba-Australia relations and the sectors on which there are greater potentialities to consolidate and strengthenties for mutual benefit. In this regard, the Cuban Ambassador stressed the importance of strengthening ties in the field of biotechnology, the medical-pharmaceutica lindustry, mining, as well as cooperation in the sports and cultural areas in which we have been working together in recent years.

On the other hand, Mr. Warren emphasized that in the field of education, bilateral cooperation could be enhanced similarly, considering the successful application of the Cuban method "Yes, I can" since 2012, in literacy programs aimed at Australian Aboriginal communities. He also highlighted how much Cuba can continue to be offered as a tourist destination for Australians, because of what its history and cultural wealth represent, despite the geographical distance.

Duringthe meeting, they also exchanged about the possible actions to increase the interparliamentary ties between both countries.
