Kingston, Jamaica, June 23, 2022. The Honorable Olivia Grange, Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sports of Jamaica received the Cuban Ambassador Fermín Quiñones Sánchez on Wednesday morning, at the headquarters of his ministry. The Minister was accompanied by the Minister of State Alando Terrelongue, the permanent secretary Denzil Thorpe and other directors and officials of the sector.
At the meeting, the possibilities of bilateral cooperation in the sports sphere were valued, in areas such as athletics and gymnastics. Likewise, the parties called for an increase in cultural exchange, including the promotion of artistic education for young Jamaicans and other Caribbean islands. The Minister addressed the possibility of Cuban artistic talent participating in the organization and execution of activities for the 60th anniversary of Jamaican independence, a task under the responsibility of her ministry.
The Cuban side commented on the programs that our country develops in pursuit of gender equality and the advancement of women, as well as on the draft of the new Family Code, and called for closer exchanges on these issues.
The Cuban Ambassador took advantage of the occasion to thank the Minister and the Minister of State, both members of the Jamaican Parliament, for the permanent solidarity of this legislative body with Cuba, especially for the motion that it approves each year demanding the end of the economic blockade , financial and commercial of the USA against our country.
