London, January 21st. The Cuban Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Bárbara Montalvo Álvarez, was received by Professor Adam Habib, director of the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) at the headquarters of that institution of higher learning.
At the meeting, they coincided in the possibilities of cooperation that exist in the field of Higher Education and, in particular, between SOAS and Cuba’s University of the Arts (ISA). Furthermore, they also agreed on jumpstarting the implementation of the memorandum of understanding signed between both institutions on the occasion of the visit to Cuba by then SOAS director, Baroness Valerie Amos, who were attending the Congress Universidad 2020.
Professor Habib reiterated the interest in re-energising actions after the impasse caused by the pandemic.
The Cuban Ambassador, for her part, highlighted the opportunities to expand the relation with SOAS into other institutions in the island nation for exchange and mutual benefit.
Also in attendance in the meeting were Andrea Cornwall, Director of Research and Enterprise; Helen Foster, head of Partnerships and Lucy Durán, music teacher, from SOAS. Also present was Michel Rodríguez, First Secretary of the Cuban Embassy in charge of education and culture affairs.
