On Sunday afternoon, the Cuban ambassador to Mongolia, Jorge Ferrer, participated, together with almost thirty heads of diplomatic missions and international organizations, in the tribute to Damdin Sükhbaatar, "Father of the Mongolian Revolution" before his equestrian monument in the Plaza center of the city that bears his name, in front of the State Palace.
On the occasion, the President, the Prime Minister and the President and Vice President of the Grand Khural (parliament) laid a floral wreath and honored him in front of his statue, accompanied by some leaders and the group of ambassadors accredited here.
Sükhbaatar was a founding member of the Mongolian People's Party (currently in government) and leader of the Mongolian partisan army during the 1921 Revolution. For his participation in it, he was hailed as the "Father of the Mongolian Revolution".
In July 1921, in the center of Ulan-Bator, the hero of the revolution Sukhbaatar declared the independence of his country. His name was given to the square, Sukhbaatar, to a district of the capital city and to a province of the country.
