Manila, June 12, 2023- The Cuban ambassador to the Philippines, Florentino Batista González, participated today in the national act for the celebration of the 125th anniversary of the Independence of the Philippines, headed by the President of the Asian nation Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

The Cuban ambassador took the opportunity to congratulate the Philippine dignitary on behalf of the Cuban people and government and to convey wishes for prosperity to his country.

Batista González also explained to President Marcos that the independence of the Philippines coincided with the end of the Necessary War led by José Martí in Cuba that occurred between 1895 and 1898, so this triumph of the Filipinos is also in the heart and historical memory of Cubans.

This and other historical links between the two countries were recalled during the evening by the Cuban diplomat.

The event, which took place on June 12 at the Malacañán Presidential Palace, was a Wine of Honor on the occasion of the liberation of the Philippines from the Spanish empire.
