New Delhi, February 3, 2016.- The President of India, H.E. Mr. Pranab Mukherjee today received the Credentials Letters of H.E. Mr. Oscar I. Martinez Cordovés as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Cuba to this country of Southeast Asia.
During the audience the President stressed, among other things, the traditional friendly relations between the two countries since first Prime Minister of India Jawaharlal Nehru met former President Fidel Castro, the Indian supports to resolutions at the UN General Assembly calling for the lifting of US sanctions against Cuba and he offered the support of his government and wishes for success in his endeavor. Meanwhile the Ambassador conveyed a special greeting to the President on behalf of the Cuban Government and people and highlighted his mission to work to consolidate and strengthen much more the existing bilateral relations of cooperation with India since its establishment 56 years ago.
The ceremony took place at Rastrapati Bhavan, President’s official residence. This activity began with the presentation of credentials of Cuba, followed by other Ambassadors of Ireland, Hungary, Malta and the United Arab Emirates who also presented credentials today and ended with the private exchange with the head of state.
