Cuban Ambassador to the UK attends launch of the Cuban archives at the University of Nottingham

Nottingham, March 13. The Cuban ambassador to the United Kingdom, Bárbara Montalvo, attended the launch of the Cuban archive of the Hennessy collection of the Centre for Research on Cuba (CRC) of the University of Nottingham, here today. Also present at the event were Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Shearer West, Dr. Parvathi Kumaraswami, Director of the CRC, and Emeritus Professor Dr. Antoni Kapcia, as well as other faculty, donors, and students.

Located in the Trent Building at the University Park campus, this unique Cuban archive in Western Europe originated from a donation made by Professor Alaistair Hennessy in 1994. Since then, the collection has been enriched and currently contains a collection of over1,400 books, videos, journal articles, postgraduate theses, as well as more than 70 newspapers and journals on different aspects of Cuban history, culture and current affairs.

This bibliographic collection constitutes an important source of reference for Cuban scholars. From these documentary sources, more than thirty doctoral and master's theses have been produced.

Also present at the event was Michel Rodríguez, First Secretary in charge of Cultural and Academic Affairs of the Cuban Embassy.
