Toronto, April 30, 2018.- On Friday, April 27th, the Canadian Network on Cuba (CNC), in collaboration with the Cuba - Canada Friendship Association of Toronto and the Association of Cuban residents in this city "Juan Gualberto Gómez", among other organizations in solidarity with the island, organized a cultural event that welcomed Caribbean and Latin American artists united in a common feeling: Cuba.
The Cuban ambassador to Canada, Josefina Vidal Ferreiro attended the event and expressed her gratitude to the organizers, in particular the renowned intellectual Keith Ellis, the main architect of this initiative. She highlighted the record of actions deployed for decades by the associations gathered there in support of Cuba and other Caribbean nations in situations of catastrophes, while reiterating the gratitude of the Cuban people for their dedication to the cause of the Five and the demand for the lifting of the American blockade.
The night was enlivened by poems by renowned Latin American writers, among them José Martí, Nicolás Guillén, Rubén Darío and Pablo Neruda; while Latin American music in the voices of the troubadours Ernesto J. Espinosa, Jose Sanhueza and Pablo Gutierrez, as well as the Caribbean imprint led by the Steel Band "Pan Fantasy" and the soprano Denise Williams, demonstrated the interconnection of our cultural roots.
Also present were the Consul General of Cuba in Toronto, Tania López Larroque and other members of the Consulate, Venezuelan consular representatives, Cubans living in this city, as well as Canadians and other friends of solidarity with Cuba. The funds raised in this event will be allocated by the CNC to contribute to the reconstruction of the affected areas in Cuba after the passage of Hurricane Irma.
