London, 2 September. A screening of the Humberto Solas’ film Lucía (1968) took place yesterday in Leeds as part of an event organised by Cuba Solidarity Campaign (CSC) and Cinema Pending in that British city.
The film was presented by Fred Gallucci, who underscored the importance of bringing Cuban cinema to new audiences. In addition, he said that more screenings of Cuban films were expected to take place next year, while maintaining the solidarity in the fight against the US blockade, and support to the Cuba Vive appeal of fundraising to send medical supplies to the Island.
CSC is a broad-based British organisation with over five thousand members, affiliated organisations and local groups who campaign against the illegal and inhumane blockade of the USA on Cuba, for an end to the US occupation at the Guantanamo Bay, and to defend the Cuban people’s right to live free from foreign intervention.
Lucia is a master piece of Cuban cinema, depicting the struggles, life and social contradictions experienced by Cuban women during three pivotal moments in Cuban history.
