Cuban citizenship granted to a Canadian girl during April 4 celebrations in Canada

Ottawa, April 7, 2026 - As part of the celebrations marking April 4—a date of deep significance for youth and children on the Island—the Embassy of the Republic of Cuba in Canada held an emotional ceremony to grant Cuban citizenship to a Canadian girl, reaffirming the indissoluble ties that unite new generations with their homeland.

The event took place at the Cuban diplomatic headquarters and was attended by members of the mission, their children, and the girl’s family. The ceremony highlighted the value of Cuban citizenship not only as a legal recognition, but as a living expression of identity, belonging, and historical continuity.

Granting citizenship to this girl represents a significant step in preserving Cuban traditions, culture, and values beyond geographical borders. It also reflects the commitment of Cuban families abroad to keep their roots alive and to pass on to new generations a love for Cuba.
