Ottawa, October 4, 2016- Yesterday evening, the Canadian Federal Parliament hosted the celebration of Cuba´s National Day of Culture with a Cuban night which was attended by The Honourable George Furey, Speaker of the Senate, and The Honourable Geoff Regan, Speaker of the House of Commons.
The masterful performance of Sinatra Meets Moré concert by renowned Cuban singer Augusto Enriquez, and the Back Alley Big Band from Halifax, was a tribute to Cuban culture and the ties of friendship and cooperation that bring Canada and Cuba together.
Cuban Ambassador to Canada, Julio Garmendía Peña, thanked the Speakers of both chambers of the Canadian Federal Parliament for their support to this event. The diplomat also referred to the traditional bonds of friendship and mutual respect between Canada and Cuba and highlighted the current good state of bilateral relations between the two countries.
Several MPs, senators, Global Affairs officials, members of the diplomatic corps, Cuban residents and friends of Cuba also joined the celebration.
