On October 6th, the Australia-Cuba Friendship Society(ACFS) and the Cuban Embassy jointly organized an artistic gala in Canberra on the occasion of Cuban culture national day that will be officially celebrated on next October 20th.
In a colorful and joyful evening, those present were offered with a tasting of the most representative of Cuban cocktails and Cuban food, among which it could not miss the already preferred mojito drink and roast pork meat. The Cuban resident and professional dancer, Mario Navarro Zayas, offered a unique Cuban show to the rhythm of rumba and son.
The Ambassador of Cuba, José Manuel Galego Montano, took the opportunity to recognize the ACFS for its long lasting support to the Cuban Revolution for more than 30 years, especially its work in Australia for the lifting of the economic, commercial and financial blockade that the United States has maintained against Cuba since 1962. The senior diplomat also recalled that on October 31th, for the twenty-seventh consecutive time, a draft resolution calling for the end of such barbaric and unilateral policy will be submitted to United Nations General Assembly consideration.
A special recognition was also given to Mario Navarro and his dance partner, for their work in promoting the values of Cuban culture within Canberra.
The function was attended by ambassadors and chargé d'affaires from Mexico, Costa Rica, Venezuela, El Salvador and Palestine, as well as by Cuban and Australian citizens.
