Monrovia, May 25 (Prensa Latina) The Chargé d'Affaires of the Cuban Embassy in Liberia, Mercedes Martínez Herrera, today thanked Africa for its support in her country's struggle against the commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States.
In an interview granted to the Liberian newspaper Daily Observer on the occasion of the celebration of Africa Day, Martinez Herrera also highlighted the fraternal ties between the continent and Cuba.
The official thanked the unanimous support of governments, leaders and peoples of the region for the fight against the blockade, including the vote in favor of the elimination of that policy within the African Union and the United Nations General Assembly.
Under the title 'From Revolution and War to Serving Humanity', the Daily Observer recalls that the ties go back to the formation of the Cuban nationality.
Martinez Herrera recalled that Cuban combatants, health workers, teachers, sports coaches and other specialists from the most diverse fields have carried out missions in African nations, and have done so honoring an elemental duty of solidarity and internationalism with our brothers, thus establishing part of our historical debt to Africa.
He also recognized that the year that has passed since the last celebration of Africa Day has been characterized by dynamism in bilateral relations with the nations of the continent and progress towards deepening and consolidating political-diplomatic ties.
