Cuban Embassy in Australia celebrates the 61st anniversary of the Cuban Revolution

Canberra, February 26, 2020 - The Cuban Embassy in Australia commemorated the 61st anniversary of the Triumph of the Revolution at a reception held in the city of Canberra. Federal parliamentarians, representatives of the Foreign Ministry, members of the accredited diplomatic corps, businessmen, Cuban residents and a representation of the Australia-Cuba Friendship Association attended the event.

In his speech, the Cuban Ambassador Ariel Lorenzo Rodríguez, referred to the advances made by Cuba in the last six decades, mainly in the area of ​​health and education, as well as the internationalist calling of the Cuban Revolution to extend them towards third-world people on the basis of solidarity and international cooperation. This has been demonstrated through different programs such as; Operation Miracle program, the implementation of the Cuban literacy method “Yes, I Can” and Cuban medical missions in different nations. Similarly, the representative denounced the intensification of the US blockade against Cuba and the severe damage that this causes to the country and how this aggressive policy constitutes a flagrant violation of human rights and the main obstacle to the growth of the Cuban economy.

In the bilateral part, the Ambassador ratified Cuba's will to continue deepening its ties with Australia, while highlighting mining and biotechnology as the sectors that offer the highest potential for strengthening relations.

Cuban resident and dancer Adrián Medina, one of the guests at the IV Conference "The Nation and Emigration", made a demonstration of classic Cuban rhythms such as son and rumba.
