Vienna, January 27, 2023. On the occasion of the 170th anniversary of the birth of Cuba's apostle José Martí Pérez, the Cuban mission in Austria, representatives of the diplomatic corps and members of the Austria-Cuba Friendship Association "ÖKG" gathered in front of his bust, located in the Plaza de los Próceres Latinoamericanos of the Donaupark, in Vienna.

Every year, this important event in Cuba's history is celebrated in Vienna, recalling Martí's life and work, the coherence between his ideas and actions, his ethical stature and his infinite love for his homeland, as well as the evocation of his memory through art.

Ambassador Soraya Alvarez, in her opening remarks, referred to the celebration in Havana, as the culmination of the activities for the 170th anniversary, of the V International Conference for the Balance of the World, which in this edition has reached a global dimension, with the participation of delegations from more than 82 countries. He also highlighted the message of Pope Francis sent to this conference, which emphasized "the urgency of building bridges that can help us to find together viable solutions that do not exclude anyone. All from dialogue and with the broad horizon of fraternity".

In his speech, he also highlighted Martí's call to keep our nations united, a concept that has inspired Our America and that with this spirit, the conference will be held on the basis of dialogue and with a broad horizon of fraternity".

The diplomatic mission, together with the president of the Austria-Cuba Friendship Association, Michael Wogerer, placed a wreath before the bust of our national hero. At the end of the ceremony, the simple verses of Martí were played to the rhythm of the Guantanamera.
