Cuban Embassy invited to the inauguration of the statue of Mahatma Gandhi in the Peace Park, in the city of Victoria.

The Cuban Embassy in Seychelles was present at the inauguration of the statue that pays tribute to the Indian leader Mahatma Gandhi in the Peace Park, in front of the Freedom Square in the city of Victoria.

In a brief but moving ceremony, the bronze statue was unveiled by the High Commissioner of India, General (Retd.) Dalbir Singh Suhag, who concluded with this activity his mission to Seychelles, and the Seychelles Minister of Foreign Affairs and Tourism, Sylvestre Radegonde.

At the ceremony, HC Singh Suhag praised Gandhi as one of the great universal symbols of peace and highlighted his legacy, precisely in these times, when his thoughts and values are becoming increasingly relevant.

The statue of Gandhi in the Peace Park joins that of Sir James Mancham, founding president of the Republic of Seychelles, and that of Nelson Mandela, a symbol of untiring struggle against apartheid and the first black president of South Africa, a world reference against racism.

Also present were former Seychelles President Danny Faure, Minister-designate Jean-François Ferrari, other cabinet ministers, members of the diplomatic corps and friends of India.

For the Cuban Embassy it was a privilege to participate in the unveiling of this statue that pays tribute to the father of the Indian nation, a universal reference for sovereignty and peace.
