Canberra, October 27, 2020.- Last Sunday, the Cuban Embassy in Australia attended the inauguration of the Baseball 5 season in the state of New South Wales, which was held in the capital city of Sydney. In addition, executives of the Australian Baseball Federation, fans of this sport and a representation of the Cuban resident’s community were present.
The sports discipline was inaugurated with a friendly match between the teams of Cuban and Venezuelan players residing in the above mentioned city, enthusiasts of the well-known "four corner" game in Cuba. In his words to the participants, Cuban Ambassador Ariel Lorenzo Rodríguez highlighted the potential of practising this new modality of baseball in Australia and how sports exchanges contribute to strengthening relations between the two countries.
Among the Cubans, the presence of Adrián Medina Scull, President of the newly constituted Cultural Association of Cuban Heritage and Roots in Australia, who from the organisation has also proposed among its objectives the promotion of sport, mainly baseball and boxing.
The celebration of this event is also part of the agreement signed in Havana in 2019 between the Baseball Federations of both countries, where the parties committed themselves to promoting bilateral actions to promote the massive practice of this sport discipline.
