Cuban Embassy in Seychelles participates in the celebration of the National Day of the Russian Federation.

The Cuban Embassy in Seychelles participated in the reception hosted by the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Seychelles on the occasion of the celebration of its National Day.

The celebration was presided over by Artyon Kozhim, Russian Ambassador to Victoria and the Seychelles Minister of Education, Dr. Justin Valentin. In their speeches both highlighted the importance of their bilateral ties, particularly cooperation in the areas of tourism and education. Russia is currently the main emitter of tourism to the islands that make up the African archipelago.

Present at the event were officials of the Seychelles Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Tourism, members of the accredited diplomatic corps, businessmen and Russians residing in Seychelles.

June 12 commemorates the Declaration of National Sovereignty of the Russian Federation, adopted on June 12, 1990 by the First Congress of People's Deputies of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic after the beginning of the process of disintegration of the Soviet Union.

In 1992 the date was proclaimed a national holiday and in 2002 it officially began to be called Russia Day.
