Cuban Foreign Minister begins official visit to Nigeria as part of his African tour.

Abuja, March 15, 2025 – Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla arrived in Nigeria this afternoon as part of an official tour of Africa. During his stay, he will hold an intense agenda of official meetings with the country's leaders, with the goal of strengthening the historic ties and cooperation between the two nations. He was received at Abuja's Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport by Ambassador Wahab Adekola Akande, Chief of Protocol of the Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Cuban Ambassador to Nigeria Miriam Morales Palmero.

As part of his tour, the Cuban Foreign Minister will also meet with representatives of the Cuban community residing in Nigeria, Nigerian students who graduated in Cuba, and members of the solidarity movement with the island.

This visit is part of the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Cuba and Nigeria, celebrated on July 1, 2024. Over these five decades, both countries have developed close cooperation in various areas, with an emphasis on education, health, and human resource training. The presence of hundreds of Nigerian students in Cuban universities and collaboration in strategic sectors reflect the mutual commitment to continue strengthening these ties.

Cuba and Nigeria share deep historical and cultural ties, cemented by a common heritage and a shared vision of promoting sustainable development, South-South cooperation, and solidarity among peoples. In this sense, the Cuban Foreign Minister's visit reaffirms the willingness of both nations to continue expanding their bilateral relations and explore new opportunities for cooperation.

The Foreign Minister's tour of Africa reinforces Cuba's commitment to the region and its interest in further strengthening ties with the countries of the continent. Nigeria is the fourth stop on his journey through the mother continent.
