Monrovia, November 1, 2023 - At the invitation of the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Liberia, Head of Mission Mercedes Martinez participated in the official ceremony of the United Nations Day, on the occasion of the 78th anniversary of its creation.
The United Nations officially came into being on October 24, 1945, after the majority of the 51 Member States that signed the founding document of the Organization, the UN Charter, ratified it. Today, 193 States are members of the United Nations, which are represented in the deliberative body, the General Assembly.
Since its founding, the UN has been considered the world's most legitimate global organization with the greatest convening power and normative impact on the planet.
