Cuban Head of Mission in Liberia takes part in activities for the 177th Anniversary of the Independence of that African country.

Monrovia, July 27, 2024 - The Head of Mission of the Cuban Embassy in Liberia Mercedes L. Martínez Herrera participated this July 26 in the celebrations for the 177th Anniversary of the Independence of this West African country.

With the presence of the President of Ghana Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the official program in commemoration of the 177th anniversary of the independence of Liberia took place at the Centennial Memorial Pavilion.

This year, Dr. Robtel Neajai Pailey, was selected by Liberian President Joseph Boakai as the National Independence Day speaker under the theme: “Building a New Liberia for all Liberians”.

At the closing of this ceremony, President Boakai called on Liberians to work together to help build a new Liberia, noting that Liberia is a country with a rich history, but has been slow to move forward. He urged the people to change the course of their country and move away from the self-imposed struggles they have faced since gaining independence 177 years ago.

He pledged his personal commitment and that of his government to provide space to work together, overcoming political, economic and social divisions, to bring about positive change for all.
