Cuban health professionals commemorate the Day of Latin American Medicine in St. Kitts with the celebration of a scientific day.
Basseterre, December 2, 2024: What better way to commemorate the Day of Latin American Medicine than with a scientific exercise by our Health collaborators, who were joined on this occasion by local colleagues graduated in Cuba and Cubans residing in the Federation, all professionals in the sector.
The Prime Minister of this nation, the Honourable Doctor Terrance Drew, a doctor graduated from the University of Santa Clara, was one of the attendees, who with great emotion and gratitude exalted the importance of the work of our doctors and nurses for the well-being of his people. He referred to the difficult reality through which Cuba is going through today, caused mainly by the blockade policy imposed by the United States, but also by the most recent hurricane and tremors. In this sense, he expressed the willingness of his government and his personal desire to always support us.
Gratefully surprised by the presentations presented was the first colonel Luis Ángel Macareño, second chief of the National General Staff of Civil Defense of Cuba, invited to the conference, while being in the Federation to participate in the Caribbean Conference on Comprehensive Disaster Management (CDM-13). Before concluding the exercise, he wanted to address those present not only to congratulate them, but also to tell them that he takes new ideas that will greatly contribute to his daily routine, since some of the topics discussed are very related to his work.
The seventeen members of the Cuban Medical Brigade co-authored the thirteen works presented between free topics and posters, to which other practicing colleagues in the Federation also contributed.
Faced with the quality and rigor with which the work was presented, Ambassador David Rivero congratulated each of the participants and urged them to continue with the same vocation and dedication which has made them worthy of the affection and admiration of the people of St. Kitts and Nevis.
There was no lack of space to honour Fidel, fundamental architect of the beautiful work that our Cuban collaborators take to every corner of the planet, as a sign of solidarity and humanism with the peoples they help, but also of respect and commitment to the profession they practice.
