Cuban medical brigades and their solidarity work in Africa and the world.

Athens, 14 June. An important event was held organized by the publishing house Diethness Vima (International Forum) where the book Red Zone: Cuba and the Battle against Ebola in West Africa, published in Spanish and English by Pathfinder Press, was presented in the Serafio complex of the municipality of Athens. At the event the floor was taken by the Ambassador of Cuba Zelmys Maria Dominguez Cortina; Nikos Karandreas, honorary professor of medicine at the University of Athens; Sofia Roupaka, biologist and teacher; Shafiq Ahmed, physician and member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Pakistan; as well as George Mehrabian who presented the event on behalf of the publisher.
The ambassador commented that the book highlights the altruistic collaboration of Cuban doctors and health workers in that part of the world. It is a sign of the love, dedication and support of Cubans who provide exemplary help to the peoples who have required such commendable health care. It is also a very relevant historical background in times of global pandemic for coronavirus, where Cuba's solidarity has also manifested itself. She added that this possibility of showing this kind of solidarity is part of the achievements of the Cuban socialist revolution in these 60 years, despite the unfair economic, commercial and financial blockade of the US against Cuba, which is the main obstacle to Cuba's development.
And She concluded: “There are multiple examples of blocking actions to prevent Cuba from obtaining basic equipment to deal with the coronavirus pandemic, for example, as well as oil and food. These kinds of actions are condemned by the United Nations and by friends of solidarity around the world. In this struggle for truth, sovereignty and dignity, the gestures and demonstrations of cooperation of Cuban health workers, such as those shown in the book presented today, destroy attacks and misrepresentations about why and what is the true solidarity of Cuban health professionals.”
The other panelists explained the contents of the book, the achievements of the Cuban revolution in medicine, the history of Cuban medical cooperation in the world. Questions about Cuba were also asked by attendees.
Cuba's friend Velissarios Kossivakis took the opportunity to promote the initiative to apply for the Nobel Peace Prize for Cuban medical brigades. He also paid homage to the birth of the heroes Antonio Maceo Grajales and Ernesto Che Guevara, who were born on June 14, in two historical moments and both fought for the freedom of Cuba.
They were sold in addition to the Spanish and English versions of the book presented, other titles published by the publisher in Greek about Cuba and other topics of interest to the revolutionary left.
Among the 50th people present were members of the solidarity organizations, of various political forces, the counselor of the Cuban embassy in Greece José Oriol Marrero Martinez, and Cubans residing in Greece.
