Port of Spain, June 17, 2023. A night dedicated to Cuba took place at the “Latin Nights” event that is held from June 12 to 22 at the National Library of Trinidad and Tobago (NALIS).
The meeting allowed Cuban culture to be enjoyed through cinema, music, dance, literature and plastic arts and featured performances by compatriots residing in Trinidad and Tobago and members of the Cuban Medical Brigade.
In her welcoming words, the Ambassador of Cuba Tania Diego Olite, thanked the prestigious National Library for welcoming this initiative in a country like Trinidad and Tobago which, like our region, reflects the influence of Africa, Europe, Asia , and original cultures that result today in this cultural mosaic, as Nicolas Guillen said, "everything mixed".
The Cuban film "Esteban" occupied a luxurious place in the room whose plot quickly captivated the spectators. Those present were able to enjoy the bolero "Dos Gardenias", the poem entitled "Funda de Bambula" by the Cuban poet Nancy Morejón and a "Rueda de Casino" to the rhythm of Cuban musical themes.
The cultural evening closed with a flourish when most of the participants accompanied the artists with the singing of "Guantanamera" and the contagious "Conga Santiaguera".
The meeting, which was well attended by the public, contributed to the strengthening of cultural ties between the peoples of Cuba and Trinidad and Tobago.
