Cuban president will be spokesperson for the countries of the South at the annual meeting of the United Nations

New York, September 17, 2023. The President of the Republic of Cuba and President of the Group of 77 and China, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, heads the Cuban delegation to the high-level segment of the 78th regular session of the Assembly General of the United Nations.

On this occasion, the participation of the Cuban leader in the New York meeting will have a special significance, due to the responsibility that comes with representing the interests, aspirations and legitimate claims of the 134 countries of the South grouped in the G77.

The Cuban president will also denounce the intensification of the criminal blockade imposed by the United States against the Cuban people and the unjustified inclusion of the Island on the unilateral list of States supposedly sponsoring terrorism.

The high-level segment of the General Assembly brings together more than 100 heads of State and Government and other senior dignitaries from the 193 Member States of the United Nations in New York.

It is a platform to debate the most relevant issues on the international agenda, identify joint solutions to global challenges and promote bilateral relations.
