Monrovia, May 25, 2020 - On "Africa Day" the Cuban radio station Radio Rebelde transmitted the message of the Chargé d'Affaires of the Republic of Cuba in Liberia, Mercedes L. Martínez Herrera, on the occasion of "Africa Day". In it, the Cuban diplomat refers to the origin of the celebration of that date and to the existing fraternal links between Cuba and Africa indicating that they are an essential part of our history, which goes back to the formation of the Cuban nationality marked by the African imprint, culture, rhythm and traditions, which arrived in our country, together with the blacks brought to Cuba during the time of the slave trade.
It also claims that Cuban combatants, health workers, teachers, sports coaches and other specialists, from the most diverse branches, have carried out missions in African nations and have done so honoring an elementary duty of solidarity and internationalism with our brothers, thus settling a part of our historical debt with Africa.
In her message, the Cuban Head of Mission in this West African country thanks the unanimous support of the governments, leaders and peoples of Africa for the struggle against the US blockade imposed on Cuba, including the vote in favor of the elimination of that policy within the African Union and the United Nations General Assembly.
