Cuban scientist living in the United Kingdom highlights the scientific vocation of the Cuban Revolution and denounces the U.S. blockade against Cuba.

London, September 04, 2022- In the second part of the interview offered to "Theprisma", Cuban scientist Miriam Palacios, resident in the United Kingdom, highlighted the scientific vocation of the Cuban Revolution and denounced the U.S. blockade against Cuba.

Palacios, who is also a board member of the "Cubans in Cuba" Association, explained how the development of Science has been a priority for the Cuban Revolution since its very beginnings. "Fidel Castro said in 1962 that Cuba had to be a country of men and women of science," said the scientist. She also highlighted how during the pandemic, the Cuban government "put itself at the service of science" and succeeded in producing its own Cuban vaccines to combat Covid-19.

At the same time, he highlighted the work carried out by Cuba over the years with the establishment and adoption of a set of sustainable measures in relation to the environment and its response to climate change. She recalled the speech made by Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro at the 1992 UN Conference on Environment and Development in Rio de Janeiro, which she described as one of the "most epic" and where he alerted "humanity about the dangers of consumerism for the planet and the need for economic powers to assume their responsibility in this disastrous path" towards the extinction of the human species.

On the other hand, the Cuban scientist catalogued as "criminal" the U.S. blockade of Cuba, whose main objective is to "strangle the country" and "lead the Cuban people to extreme poverty that would provoke an uprising against the government."

In turn, she condemned the inclusion of Cuba on the list of countries sponsoring terrorism by the government itself, a measure which, in Miriam's opinion, reinforces the extraterritorial application of this blockade policy, despite international intolerance on the subject. She pointed out how this policy also affects the Cuban community abroad, which has been "mistreated with impunity by banks and agencies that interfere" in their efforts to help Cuba, as they have frozen their donation money and/or boycotted their fundraising campaigns.

"Theprisma" is an independent media project in the United Kingdom and declares itself as an ethical, informative and unifying newspaper, committed to social justice and equal opportunities.
