Cuban Vice-President talked with Kenya's Health Minister in Nairobi.

Nairobi, January 31. The Minister of Health of Kenya, Dr. Cleopa Kilonzo Mailu, received in Nairobi the Vice President of the Council of State of Cuba, Salvador Valdés Mesa, who made a brief transit through this city, after presiding the delegation of his country to the 28th Summit of The African Union, held in Ethiopia.

During the lively exchange at the Kenyan capital's air terminal, both leaders agreed to assess bilateral relations as positive and recognized the importance of the opening of the Kenyan Embassy in Havana last year. The Cuban Vice President reiterated the gratitude of the Cuban people and government for the signs of solidarity and pain expressed in this nation after the death of Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz and ratified Cuba's decision to continue strengthening friendship and collaboration relations with Africa.

For his part, Dr. Mailu, who visited Havana last year, demanded lifting of the US blockade against Cuba and praised the island's achievements in health, education and training human resources. He also expressed the interest of his government in developing bilateral cooperation in various fields and addressed the different challenges facing his country in the current conjuncture. Both sides took the opportunity to discuss issues on the international agenda and on the African continent.

e Cuban Vice-President was joined by comrades Gerardo Peñalver Portal and Ángel Villa Hernández, director general of Bilateral Affairs and director of Sub-Saharan Africa of the Cuban Foreign Ministry, respectively; as well as the Hero of the Republic of Cuba, Brigadier General Arnaldo Tamayo Méndez and the Cuban Ambassador in this country, Ernesto Gómez Díaz.
